A common complaint about Vibram FiveFingers is that they are difficult to get on your feet. I’ll admit, I found it a bit awkward to get them on my feet the first time in store, but the learning curve is not exactly steep. If you put them on, oh, say, twice, you’ll probably be good to go, having discovered the easiest method for yourself.
In the above video I show you how I put two Vibram FiveFingers KSO on my feet in under ten seconds (okay, maybe twelve, depending upon what you count as start and finish). It’s a simple four step process that goes like this:
- SLIP the forefoot into the shoe as far as it will naturally go.
- SCOOT your toes all the way to the end, inserting them into the appropriate individual toe pockets.
- FLIP the heel of the shoe down, grab the material with your opposite hand, and slip it up over your heel.
- STRAP the shoe securely onto your foot.
That’s it! SLIP – SCOOT – FLIP – STRAP. My formula for easy on Vibram KSOs.
Of course, the KSOs are more difficult than many of the other VFF models, as it has full coverage and a strap. For those models without a strap, I suspect you could get them on significantly faster. And talk about easy? Justin over at birthdayshoes.com shows us just how easy it is to put on a pair of Vibram Classics, without even using his hands. Check his vid out here on YouTube.

Wow, that does not work for me at all
I have the KSOs and once they’re on they fit perfectly in length, but the fabric and strap across the top is tight. It takes me a few minutes to put them on. The ‘flip the heel and grab the material’ takes some patience and time.
I have a feeling people complaining about the difficulty in putting them on are just not lucky enough to have a perfect fit.
Kat – I’ll confess, I have to be pretty forceful with the “flip” portion myself, if I’m to accomplish it quickly. Sometimes, I just bend the darn thing in half.
I can put my KSOs on pretty quickly but my “scoot” doesn’t work quite so well. My “piggy that went wee wee all the way home” doesn’t cooperate and I have to help him find his way……
